Airdropped NFT or token scams#
Airdrops are a common way to receive NFTs and tokens — and a common tool scammers use to steal them.
These attacks usually involve an NFT or token with a URL in its name or description, such as centuriondex-airdrop.claim. The site at that URL offers to redeem what you received for a valuable token (for example, CTN). During the "redemption," the scammers trick you into approving a contract in your wallet. Once approved, they have permission to transfer the tokens and NFTs out of your wallet.
If you receive an NFT or token from an unknown sender that you were not expecting, do not attempt to claim it. If you have already interacted with such an airdrop, consider moving your remaining assets to a different wallet (note that transfers incur network costs) and revoke any approvals you granted.
To protect yourself:
- If you receive an NFT or token containing a URL, research it before doing anything.
- If you receive an NFT or token from an unknown source, do not try to swap, sell, or claim it.
