Giveaway promotion scams#
Scammers sometimes post a giveaway promotion or message you on a social platform (such as X, Discord, or Telegram) while pretending to be a legitimate company or project.
These messages usually claim you have won something, or that a well-known project is hosting a giveaway or airdrop. The scammer sends a link and asks you to send tokens (for example, CTN) to an address they provide, or to approve a contract in your wallet — promising to double whatever you send.
If you approve their contract, you put the tokens in your wallet at risk. If you send tokens to their address, those tokens may be unrecoverable. Legitimate giveaways never require you to send funds first or approve a contract to "claim."
To protect yourself:
- Check the account messaging you or posting the promotion. If you cannot verify it is genuinely from the company or team, treat it as a scam.
- Confirm through an official, verified channel whether the airdrop or giveaway is real.
- Only accept messages from people you trust.
