What is a blockchain network?#

A blockchain network is the environment where users hold balances, send transactions, and interact with smart contracts. Each network has its own state, rules, and native token.

Networks generally fall into two categories:

  • Layer 1 is a base blockchain where on-chain transactions settle directly. Centurion is a proof-of-stake layer 1 with the CVM, native CTN, and chain ID 286. When you send CTN to another wallet on Centurion, you are transacting on its layer 1.
  • Layer 2 networks operate on top of a layer 1 to reduce the cost and time of transactions, publishing data back to the base chain for settlement.

Each network is separate: a balance on one network does not exist on another, even if the wallet address looks the same. CenturionDEX operates exclusively on Centurion.
